Unveiled: 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 400

The 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 400 has been updated with styling now resembling its elder sibling the present generation Ninja 650R. The earlier Ninja 400R similar to the new version was a scaled down Ninja 650R and remained un-updated even after the new Ninja 650R was launched early this year, until now.

Powered by a Liquid-cooled DOHC 8-valve 399 cc Parallel Twin fuel injector motor, 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 400 produced max power of 44ps @ 9500 rpm and peak torque at 37nm @ 7500 rpm.

The exterior package remains spec to spec similar to the 650R, albeit a redesigned seat with thicker cushioning claimed to offer increased comfort to the rider. In comparison to its predecessor, the new seat is treated to a flatter profile. Though the seat height remains the same, the flatter construction with a narrower distance between the pivot covers offers a more slimmer package. As a result, the rider’s feet are now closer by 50mm which makes the reach to the ground significantly shorter (Smart eh!).

The 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 400 is available in Metallic Moondust Gray / Metallic Spark Black and Candy Burnt Orange / Metallic Spark Black. Surprisingly the traditional Ninja Green has been launched as a special edition model in a combo shade of Candy Lime Green / Metallic Spark Black with ABS as an optional feature.

With the price of the regular model at 649,950 (INR 4,08,400) with the non-ABS Special edition priced at 669,900 (INR 4,20,936) and the Special edition ABS model costing 720,300 Japanese Yen (INR 4,52,475)- it seems unlikely that the Kawasaki Bajaj Alliance would bring it to the Indian shores. At the given price, where on one hand it might eat into the sales of the already low-selling Ninja 300- but with the KTM 390 Duke selling under the same roof, the new Kawasaki Ninja 400 would land up on the other side of the VFM factor.
