TVS Apache RTR 250 coming in early 2014?

We reported in detail when South India based two wheelers manufacturer TVS motors recently entered into a partnership with famous German bike maker BMW Motorrad for the development of performance motorcycles having engine displacements less than 650cc.

The first bike to come from this new tip up is expected to arrive in 2014 and would have an engine size of 250cc. This quarter litre class bike is being developed with huge inputs from TVS Racing, the racing division of TVS Motors.

There are good chances that the upcoming 250cc bike from TVS-BMW Motorrad would be marketed as Apache RTR 250 in India and would become the flagship product of the Hosur based bike maker.

It may be noted that there was once a time when South India based two wheeler maker TVS looked poised to dethrone Bajaj in the performance bikes segment of the fast developing Indian bike market. However, the game has moved on since then and Bajaj has upped the ante with the Pulsar 200NS.

The Apache series of bikes, which started life with a 150cc motor and later graduated to 160cc and 180cc, is definitely a potent challenger to the 150cc and 180cc variants in the Bajaj Pulsar series.

The upcoming TVS Apache RTR250 might be launched towards the end of this fiscal and would become the first bike from TVS Motors to sport a full fairing. This should please the ‘fairing-hungry’ Indian bike buying crowd.

Powering the big daddy of all Apaches could be an oil cooled engine instead of a liquid cooled unit. The bike is expected to come with a sticker price of lesser than INR 1.3 Lakhs. The bike will get ABS and fuel injection. The bike will also get an all disc brake setup with petal discs at both the ends. Safely expect the bike to have decent handling and ride quality.

We just can’t wait to have a rendezvous with the bigger than ever Apache.

  1. Yeah, 1.3L look like an overstatement. I think it would be below 1.8L looking at the bike specs & features. Won’t be bad at all given it is expected with ABS. Also not mentioned but I also expect 4 valve DOHC engine assembly. Can’t I?

  2. Why are they still coming out with a single cylinder? The next game changer would be a twin-cylinder low cap bike. The writing is on the wall and TVS just fails to read it.

    Seriously…?????
