The current generation Toyota Innova

While we prepare ourselves to bid adieu to the current generation Toyota Innova to make way for a newer model, an alleged ‘insider’ from the company has revealed some valuable information about the car maker’s future strategies for the Indian market. Latest reports, based on insider information, suggest that the ex-showroom price of the upcoming, next generation Toyota Innova will be dearer by Rs. 1-1.5 lakhs. However, the price for the fully loaded trim is not likely to go beyond Rs 22 lakhs (on-road). That’s steep as a coconut tree for an MUV selling in a country called India.

While many tourist agencies may be waiting to add the new Innova to their fleet, the insider reveals that the new generation model will be restricted for personal buyers only for the first year from its launch. However, it is said that Toyota will continue to manufacture and deliver the current generation Innova in its commercially popular GX avatar for a year so that the tourist agencies and cab companies continue to add newer cars to their armada. No other variant of the current generation Toyota Innova, except the GX model, will be available in three months from now. While details on the new car’s underpinnings and mechanicals were not revealed, reports also suggest that new Innova will be available with a 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox.

We may also see Lexus cars on Indian roads very soon

That’s that with the Innova but the mole in the company has also leaked out some more valuable information about Toyota’s product strategy, including the plans to introduce the Lexus brand in India. According to the 007 within the company, Toyota plans to bring the Lexus brand to the subcontinent this year and will reportedly introduce as many as 30 (wow!) new models from 2016 to 2020. These new models would include vehicles from Toyota as well as from Lexus. The Toyota Vios sub-compact sedan and the Rush SUV will also be seen on Indian shores by next year.

There are no updates about the next generation Etios Cross.

Lastly, the insider also revealed that Toyota’s current emphasis on safety will result into addition of ABS across the model range starting from January 2016.

The authenticity of the facts mentioned above cannot be verified. However, if the insider is right about the aforementioned points, there are definitely better days on the calendar waiting for the Indian motoring devotees.
