Updated: Toyota launches Corolla Altis Diesel in India – price and colours announced

Toyota has launched the diesel variant of its Corolla sedan in India. The global auto giant, known as Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited in India announced the launch of the highly anticipated car todayi. The Corolla Altis diesel has been priced at Rs 10.95 lakh for the base variant, Rs 12.73 lakh for the middle variant and Rs 13.75 lakh for the top end variant, ex-showroom, New Delhi. The Corolla Altis diesel is the first diesel saloon car by Toyota in India. Bookings for the car have started immediately, and the company plans to sell about 800 units per month after the launch.

The newly introduced diesel engine on the car is a 1.4-litre D-4D unit. The new engine produces 88.4PS of peak power and around 205Nm of peak torque. While we don’t expect much from this new car in terms of outright performance, the headline news is its incredible fuel efficiency of 21.43kmpl, announced officially by ARAI. The engine of the car is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

There hardly have been any changes to the diesel variant over its petrol sibling except the relatively sporty mesh grille. Toyota claims to have made some changes to the car’s exterior in a bid to improve aerodynamic efficiency though. The new car will be available in seven colours.

The Corolla brand, like everywhere else in the world has a great fan following in India, and the addition of a diesel option should increase it further. Armed with a diesel mill, the Corolla should be able to take the fight to the likes of the Chevrolet Cruze and the Skoda Laura.
