Nicola Bragagnolo, a motorcycle tuner from Italy, built, or rather transformed the Yamaha YZF-R3 into a road legal motorcycle with performance of a Moto3 race bike. He added the 18 extra hps to the bike’s credentials by fitting a turbocharger to his stock R3. Using IHI RHB31, world’s smallest turbocharger that is mainly used for 125cc to 600cc engines, he managed to bump up the output of the Yamaha R3 Turbo to 60 PS at 10,000 rpm as against the stock bike’s 42 PS at 10,750 rpm.

The custom-made Engine Control Unit is capable of delivering superior output on the racetrack but is restricted to 60PS in order to keep the bike fit for the daily use. It is claimed that the Yamaha R3 Turbo is the first modern motorcycle built for supercharged racing but also approved for road use.

Still a prototype, this turbocharged Yamaha R3 is built with an intention to introduce a whole new category of 300 cc motorcycles that will participate in  the CIV (Campionato Italiano Velocità) National Motorcycle Championship. The total cost of this turbo-ing amounted to 9,900 Euros which is about Rs 7 lakhs in INR.

The Turbo version of the R3 is made in a way to be a performer on a race track, while still being street legal! We are not suggesting anything, but We are sure that the bike will perform crazy when you wring the throttle!
