SsangYong will introduce two new concepts at the upcoming Frankfurt International Motor Show. Both the XAV-Adventure and the XLV-Air will be based on the Tivoli platform. While the XLV-Air previews the production version of the elongated Tivoli with 7 seats, the XAV-Adventure is an exercise in how bad-ass SsangYong can get if given the chance.
We’d be more interested in the XLV-Air, as its precursor, the 7 seater Tivoli, could be India bound, courtesy Mahindra. Compared to the current Tivoli, the elongated wheelbase and longer rear overhang lets it accommodate a third row of seats, thus increasing practicality. Like the Tivoli, its stretched cousin will be powered by a choice of 1.6-liter petrol or 1.6-liter diesel engines mated to 6-speed automatic or manual transmissions, and two- or four-wheel drive.
As for the XAV-Adventure, SsangYong says it’s a reinterpretation of the Korando with a “masculine and modern touch.” Primarily targeted at the youth, the XAV looks butch, and according to SsangYong is an “authentic SUV”.
Alongside the two concepts, SsangYong will also preview the diesel Tivoli, which is powered by a 1.6-liter Euro 6 engine that produces 113hp @ 3,400 and 4,000rpm and 300Nm of torque @ 1,500-2,500rpm. The engine can be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission, along with a 4WD system.
