New SsangYong Rexton

The Mahindra XUV700 could look like this and lock horns with the Fortuner

Based on the Ssangyong Rexton, this neat imagination of the Mahindra XUV700 stands tall on a tough ladder frame chassis and will lock horns with big boys like the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and upcoming products like the Jeep Compass. Identical to the Korean SUV that was unveiled in Seoul last month, this render pastes a toothy Mahindra grille and badges on the car and could go on sale in India next year.

Being a Mahindra, although it will breach Rs.20 lakh price mark, it will be priced competitively in comparison to its competition. Going by the long list of features and equipment that the XUV500 comes fitted with, expect the XUV700 to build on that and become the most luxurious and advanced Mahindra to go on sale. Powering this flagship could be a 2.2-liter 4-cyl turbodiesel engine good for 184 bhp and 420Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic. A 2.0-liter petrol motor could also be offered.

The new Rexton that debuted recently, features Apple Carplay and Android Auto with device mirroring, 3D Around View Monitoring (AVM) and a wide 9.2-inch HD screen. The well appointed cabin has been fitted with nine airbags. The Rexton’s construction uses a Quad-Frame body structure using 1.5Gpa giga-steel – claimed to be a world first. It also features 63% advanced high strength steel (AHSS) to create greatly improved body strength while reducing weight.

It is powered by SsangYong’s own 2.2 litre Euro 6 turbo-diesel engine that develops 181 PS of power and a maximum torque of 420 Nm within the range of 1,500 – 2,500rpm This engine is matched to a Mercedes-Benz sourced 7-speed automatic transmission.
