The all-new BMW 7 Series was previewed to potential customers at a private event in Goa today; marking the next-generation luxury sedan’s Indian debut. We can expect an official Indian launch soon, with competition coming from the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Audi A8L. 130 kg lighter than before, the all-new BMW 7 Series’ construction is laced with aluminium and CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic). Styling is all-new, but evolutionary (don’t miss the new laser headlamps up front, courtesy BMW Laserlight), while the interiors are more luxurious and well appointed than before. Also on offer are new engines and a raft of new, futuristic technologies.

New features include a gesture control system, reclining and massaging rear seats with integrated tables, along with BMW Touch Command, which can control up to 24 different comfort, navigation and entertainment functions via a tablet. Then there’s new, exotic ambient lighting and a new, bigger HUD for the driver. But the best party trick is the new Remote Control parking system, which can automatically pilot the car in and out of one’s garage, or a narrow parking space, at the touch of a button on the Display Key.

The new BMW 7 Series rides on a standard two-axle air suspension that automatically adjusts body height and four-wheel steering (“X Steer”) with four-wheel drive (xDrive). Other niceties include the latest driver assistance functions by BMW Connected Drive, amongst others. While Europe and US get a variety of petrol and diesel engines, the engine line-up for India could be narrowed down to two – the 750Li xDrive with a reworked, 445 hp, 4.4-liter turbocharged petrol V8 engine, and the the 261 hp, 3.0-liter, six cylinder engine in the 730Ld (India is only expected to get LWB models).
