Terra Motors R6 e-rickshaw is light and green.
Terra Motors is a Japanese manufacturer of electric-powered two-wheelers and three-wheelers. The company is now devoting INR 31 crore to put up its own manufacturing plant in Haryana, Gurgaon. This recent development goes hand in hand with Terra Motors’ decision to launch their R6 e-rickshaw in the country the coming month. This new factory is to have a annual production capacity of around 30,000 units in the first year of operations.
The Terra R6 will be the first three-wheeler by the company to enter our market.
Terra Motors claims an estimated price tag of around INR 1 lakh for the R6 e-rickshaw, but the actual cost of this rickshaw is yet unknown. This e-rickshaw comes with a 48V 100Ah battery pack that weighs 150kg and provides a maximum range of 100 km on a full charge. The Terra R6 only weighs 278kg, including the battery pack and can carry up to 7 people. The company will rope in another model of its three-wheeler rickshaw, some months post the launch of the R6.
The R6 model could be followed by another model in some time.
Though e-rickshaws are quite rare, there are approximately a lakh of them plying our country’s roads. Toru Tokushige, the founder and CEO of Terra Motors said, “In the first year, our plan is to target 30% of the market share of e-rickshaw,” Tokushige said. “We have taken certification from ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) for our R6 e-rickshaw and it is ready to ply on road.” In its first year of operations, Terra Motors will hire around 20 people, the current employees count stands at 15.
