What seems to be the basic variant of the upcoming Tata Zica hatchback has now been spied. Tata Motors have already released official images of its all-new B-Segment contender, while specifications and features are still awaited.
Back to the images, the basic variant has the de rigueur black, unpainted bumpers and exposed steel wheels. Surprisingly however, relatively premium features like fog lamps (front & rear), body colored ORVM caps, rear spoiler and a rear wash/wipe also to be seen on this basic variant. We reckon that these features could be optional extras. The chrome trim below the grille (“Humanity Line”) will also be a standard fitment across all variants.
The Zica (codename – Kite 4) will be based on a heavily reworked Indica platform, while power will reportedly come from two new engines – a 1.05-litre, three-cylinder diesel unit, and a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol unit; both naturally aspirated and strapped to 5-speed manual transmissions. An AMT is also reported to be in the offing. The Zica’s styling and interiors are all-new. Later in the day, the Zica will also spawn a compact sedan (codename – Kite 5).
The Zica, to be manufactured at Tata’s Sanand Plant, will go head to head with the Maruti Celerio, Wagon R, Renault Kwid and Hyundai i10.
