Tata Tiago Sport coming soon; could have over 120 BHP

The Tiago, even after it had to undergo an unfortunate nomenclature revision because an epidemic was spreading elsewhere in the world, is, by and large, a success. With over 40,000 orders in the kitty, waiting periods for the Tiago has soared to 3-4 months. Time to celebrate then, and what a better way to do it than bring out a sportier, more powerful version to give it to the likes of the upcoming Maruti Baleno RS. That’s right, Tata Motors is prepping up a Tiago Sport for later this year.

The Tiago Sport will replace the Bolt Sport, a hotted up Bolt that was to be launched soon after it was showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year. However, the latter project was shelved as Tata Motors predicted that it wouldn’t be financially viable, given that the Bolt itself hasn’t been a runaway success. The Tiago’s stronger brand image could do the trick, and successfully pull off the Sport moniker, reckons Tata Motors.

The Tiago Sport will be powered by a turbocharged version of its current, 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine that will also be shared with the upcoming Nexon compact SUV. However, in case of the Tiago Sport, it is expected to produce over 120 bhp, whereas in the Nexon, the same engine will produce just a shade over 100 hp. Apart from a more powerful engine, the Tiago Sport is expected to feature a lowered suspension suspension setup with stiffer damping, bigger wheels, and a sportier body kit to distinguish it from the regular Tiago.
