Tata Motors is gearing up to launch its sub 4 metre long, compact  SUV by the end of this year, namely the Nexon. The Nexon was spied testing in the city of Kolkata earlier this year in the month of February. The compact SUV made its production ready debut at the 2016 Auto Expo held in Delhi. It was based on the Nexon concept that graced the floors at the previous edition of the Auto Expo held in 2014.

This time, the Tata Nexon has been spied again, albeit with an AMT gearbox. Reports suggest that the test mule of the compact SUV was spied testing near the company’s plant in Pune, Maharashtra. The Nexon is based on the same platform that underpins the Zest and the Bolt.

Powering the sub 4 metre SUV will be a 1.5 litre turbocharged diesel engine that will be tuned to produce a power output of 110 PS and a peak torque of 260 Nm. Reports suggest that the Nexon will come with a six speed manual transmission although these are just speculations for the time being. The AMT unit could very well be the 5 speed gearbox as seen on the Zest.

Features on the upcoming Nexon could include a 6.5 inch HARMAN sourced touchscreen infotainment system, 16 inch wheels and projector headlamps with DRLs. On offer would be body kits and contrasting colour combinations for the roof.

The Tata Nexon is expected to be launched by the end of the year although there is no official word as yet. Once launched, The Nexon would rival the Mahindra TUV 300, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, and the recently launched Mahindra NuvoSport.
