Tata Motors launched the Tiago last month and the model finally has set the cash registers ringing for the company. The Tiago became the company’s best selling car last month and latest reports suggested that the hatchback has garnered over 15,000 bookings. Now, Tata seems to be working on a model that will be positioned below the Tiago but above the Nano.

Spy images that surfaced on the web reveal a test mule of the Tata Nano Pelican (codename) that was spotted in the city of Pune. Said to be the biggest update yet to the Nano, the new model is likely to be sold alongside the GenX Nano. Spy images reveal bits of the front and rear of the camouflaged vehicle as well as the interiors of the vehicle.

On the outside, the model is seen wearing 13 inch tyres as opposed to the conventional 12 inchers which suggests that the model will come equipped with a larger engine. Up-front, the headlight setup and the bonnet receive some slight tweaks, which seems to be inspired from the Nano Europa. The windshield wiper now comes with a dual arm design while the water nozzle is moved onto the bonnet from its conventional place on the wiper.

Moving on to the sides, one can notice that the  right hand side rear panel now features the fuel inlet as compared to it being placed under the bonnet under the conventional design. Coming to the interiors, a set of major changes such as a new dashboard setup and new seats is what would catch your attention first. The instrument cluster now moves back to the conventional location behind the steering wheel. The HVAC units at the centre as well as the Harman ConnectNext infotainment system seem to have been taken from the Tiago.

Powering the model would likely be a 3 cylinder engine developing a power output of 60 hp or 80 hp. Once launched, the model could rival the likes of the Datsun redi-Go, Hyundai Eon and the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800.
