Tata Nano Electric spied testing

Tata Nano electric variant spotted during pre-launch road test

2015 Tata Nano GenX (72)

We recently brought to you spy images of the Tata Nano Pelican that was spied testing in the city of Pune. Believed to be the biggest update to the Nano as yet, the model is likely to be sold alongside the GenX Nano. As we wait for official details on the same, another variant of the Nano has been spied testing.

Reports suggest that an all electric variant of the Tata Nano has been spied testing in India. Images that surfaced on the web reveal what seems to be a power socket equipped Tata Nano. The open area for the socket is located on the rear left fender of the test mule.

Another point noted was the fact that the test mule had a lesser gap between the wheel arch and the tyres as compared to the Nano AMT. This suggests that the compression might be a result of the heavy battery pack.

Technical specifications are yet unknown although reports suggest that the rear wheel drive layout from the current generation Nano would be retained. The battery pack though, is likely to be shifted to the floor of the vehicle in order to improve its weight distribution and centre of gravity.

The model would also benefit from the government’s National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP 2020) that would help the company take advantage of the subsidies. This in-turn, would also prove to be fruitful at the consumer end.
