The Kite will be based on the Indica.

When Tata launched the Indica back in 1998, it was an instant hit. But that said, even tourist and taxi companies liked that car and purchased millions of them. Tata took a look at it’s current fleet of cars and has evidently decided to phase out the Indica. The car that will replace it, is called the Kite. And according to images you see here, the car has already commenced its road tests. Though the Kite is based on the same platform as that of the Indica, this car, we have heard, will bring in a fresh look. And Tata will also heavily rework on the interiors with newer design of the center console and aircon vents. Tata will also phase out the massive lorry-like steering wheel which we see on the current Indica.

Tata’s new 1.05-litre three-pot common-rail diesel engine.

The Tata Kite will mostly be produced at the Sanand plant in Gujarat, which isn’t producing cars at full-throttle at the moment. The two new engines by Tata are an all-new 1.05-litre three-cylinder common-rail diesel engine and a new petrol unit which is to displace 1.2-litres. The oil-burner will make 64 horses and a 142 Nm of torque and both the engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual and Tata’s popular automated manual transmission (AMT) might also find its way inside the Kite. The Tata Kite will also be one of the very few cars in the Indian market to have a Euro IV rating for being more polar bear friendly. And the car may also come with variants offering CNG and LPG for fuel.
