If the latest reports are to be believed, it is the Japanese two-wheeler brand Suzuki that plans to venture back into the quarter-litre motorcycle segment of the Indian market. Reports suggest that Suzuki India plans to introduce a 250cc variant of its highly successful product in the subcontinent, the Gixxer 155. There is also a great possibility that the Gixxer 250 will be followed by a fully faired version, a strategy earlier seen with the 155cc duo. The motorcycle manufacturer introduced the Inazuma in the quarter litre motorcycle market but failed to attract attention of the locals.

The motorcycle is likely to be called the Gixxer 250 and will reportedly be priced at around Rs 1.50 lakh. This new motorcycle is expected to be powered by a 250cc single cylinder motor which will place it against the much appreciated and highly successful KTM Duke 200 and the upcoming Mahindra Mojo (if it ever arrives). Reports also suggest that the Gixxer 250 will reveal itself at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi.

While the technical details are still unknown, the new Gixxer 250 is expected to deliver about 28PS of power and will come mated to a 6-speed transmission. Unlike the Gixxer 155, braking duties on the Gixxer 250 are likely to be performed by front and rear disc brakes. The quarter litre motorcycle is still said to be in its development stage and is expected to reach the showrooms by late 2016.

We absolutely loved the 155cc duo and really look forward to the new quarter-litre variants to reach the showrooms. What about you? Share your views with us through the comments section below.

  1. Well said Jayanand. About the pricing bit, the 1.5 lakh INR price tag is where Suzuki should try to place the Gixxer 250 if it wants to compete against the Duke 200. Going above 2 lakh INR will place the upcoming quarter-litre motorcycle against the Duk 390 which may not work in Suzuki’s favor.

  2. Suzuki Inuzuma GW250 was an absolutely gem of a Motorcycle. Unfortunately it was introduced at the very wrong time. We Indian are just warming up to the concept of a higher capacity bikes then the standard crop of 150cc’s. The Benchmark was set by Duke 200 for the 200cc close to 1.5L. Now putting down a whole of 2Lakh more for the extra Cylinder n extra 50cc was just outrageous. We all know how price sensitive the indian market is. This was the prime reason for its colossal failure. I was personally was looking forward to it. The price was was a Major turn off. Now if they are planning to get out a 250cc Single cylinder, then it would be a good move. Though i cant believe it can be priced at 1.5 as you people have put it be. I speculate it to be in the region of 2Lakh. Hope they can get it out soon.
