Suzuki Gixxer 155cc Motorcycle Unveiled in India: Images, Specs and details

Suzuki Motorcycle India Limited (SMIL), have today unveiled a brand new 155cc motorcycle with the name Gixxer. While we are used to using the name Gixxer for Suzuki’s liter class GSX-R, the Japanese bike maker found it apt to use the SBK name for its new small motorcycle for India. The Gixxer is being touted as the company’s flagship product for the Indian market – needless to say, Suzuki thinks that the Gixxer will be a very successful product in India. Featuring a nice appearance, the Gixxer is also claimed to come with ‘exceptional riding performance and the best fuel economy in its class’ for the Indian market. Suzuki Gixxer was unveiled by actor Salman Khan, who has been associated with Suzuki Motorcycles as has also promoted the company’s 100cc commuter Hayate.

The Giixxer is powered by a 155cc single cylinder, SOHC engine with air cooling and a Carburettor for fuel intake. The bike employs monoshock suspension at the rear, with front disc brakes and drum rear brakes. Tyre specifications are rated at 100/80/17 at the front and 140/60/17 at a rear.

The 155cc Gixxer engine is being marketed as a SEP (Suzuki Eco Performance) powered unit. The company claims the engine technology to boast top-class fuel efficiency without compromising power and performance. The engine, having allegedly benefitted from Suzuki’s experience in racing, features technology which benefits from the reduction of all kinds of mechanical losses, efficient design of every component and attention to detail in our manufacturing process. This helps deliver both economy and performance.

The Gixxer’s engine and chassis was apparently developed by the engineers who designed the legendary GSX-R series. The frame for the bike has been kept light and stiff to aid handling. The engine also, has been developed from the scratch to offer significant advantages over competition. The engine is claimed to deliver “exceptional running performance with a broad low-end torque and dynamic mid-range power for strong acceleration.”

Speaking at the unveiling, Mr. Atul Gupta, Executive Vice President, SMIL, said “We expect the Gixxer and to create a strong foothold for themselves in the market. Salman Khan’s association with the brand has been long-standing and successful.
