While the Indian audience still awaits the YZF-R25/YZF-R3, the Indonesian market is getting closer to receive another quarter-litre offering from Yamaha. Yamaha MT-25, the naked variant of the fully faired quarter-litre YZF-R25, was recently snapped in the production ready avatar by an Indonesian website and the images reveal various design elements about this upcoming motorcycle.

Positioned against the Kawasaki Z250 from Yamaha’s homeland and the Austrian pocket rocket KTM Duke 390, the MT-25  will be powered by a 249cc, parallel-twin, 8-valve, liquid-cooled engine that is likely to deliver 36PS of power and 22.5Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a six speed gearbox which will be tuned to match the character of a street motorcycle.

In terms of design, the MT-25 will shed off the clip on bar for a naked motorcycle style wide handlebar. The full fairing from the YZF-R25 will be dropped and the twin headlight setup will be replaced by a single piece unit. A close look at the rubbger also suggest that the Yamaha MT-25 will receive IRC Road Winner tyres. Rest of the motorcycle remains pretty much similar to the YZF-R25.

We really can’t comment upon the availability of the MT-25 in the Indian market as we are yet to receive the YZF-R25. In fact, if recent reports suggest that it will be the YZF-R3 that would be making way into India to compete against the Kawasaki Ninja 300. The launch dates are still unknown but would you wait for the upcoming Yamaha MT-25 or opt for the existing products like Kawasaki Z250 or the pocket rocket KTM Duke 390?
