SPIED: Fiat’s Project 344 (sub-Palio small car)

The good folks at Fiat are surely doing overtime to speeden up the development of their all new Project 344, their upcoming city car. Recently, autossegredos managed to capture pics of a test mule of this car. It may be noted that the car on test duty is using the old Panda’s body shell and it is the components being tested. The 344 will share its platform and components with the new Uno and Palio. The car will come with two engine options- a 1.0 8V Fire petrol and SGE 0.9 NA Multiair diesel engine. If the news doing rounds on the internet is to believed, the new car will be called Pernambuco in Brazilian market. The 344 is being developed keeping in mind the demands of emerging markets. Recently, during a talk with an official from Fiat’s Chakan plant, news emerged that Fiat is working on a sub-Palio car and this goes on to consolidate our belief that the 344 is headed our way.
