Daytime running lights (DRLs) can be clearly seen on this test car.

When Hyundai launched the Elite i20 in India, we thought we would get to see the cool projector headlights and daytime running lights (DRLs) that we saw on the European model of the car. But alas, the Indian version didn’t come with either. But now that Hyundai is testing the Cross version of the Elite i20 in India, we get to glimpse at pictures like these which clearly show that the ‘Cross’ might well be equipped with not only projector headlights, but also those swanky DRLs. Apart from those two, the car can also been seen wearing a skid-plate. And just like on the Cross Polo and the Etios Cross, this beefier looking Elite i20 will also come with chunky body mouldings on the sides and a must-have accessory, the roof rails. The test car also adorns some smart looking alloy wheels.

On the mechanical front, we think that the Elite i20 Cross will be offered with similar engines that are found in the standard hatchback versions. The 1.2-litre petrol unit that churns out 82 horses and 114.7 Nm of torque, plus a 1.4-litre diesel mill that produces 89 horses and 220 Nm of twisting force. The petrol engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual, whereas the oil-burner makes use of 6-speed gearbox.

When Hyundai does launch the Elite i20 ‘Cross’, it will most possibly be the most pricey member in the i20 family. But do keep in mind, this is still a small car, technically.
