SPIED- 2015 Toyota Prius spotted testing

The next generation 2015 Toyota Prius has been spotted undergoing hot weather testing in the United States by the good folks at WCF.

As can be seen in the pics, the car will have a wedge-like shape and this means there are good chances that the car will have a design that will be an evolved version of the current car’s styling.

The car is likely to be powered by an upgraded powertrain that will consist of a 1.8-litre four-cylinder VVTi  petrol engine and a more powerful electric motor. Initially, the next gen Prius is expected to come with the current model’s nickel-metal-hydride battery. However, this could be replaced by a lithium-ion battery at a later stage.

The 2015 Prius will be built on a lightweight modular platform and will have specially-designed tires that have very low rolling resistance. All this would mean that the car will have an improved fuel efficiency of around 52 mpg (city) / 48 mpg (highway)*.

The new 2015 Toyota Prius premium hybrid car could be launched in mid-2014.
