What makes a helmet so important? Well, that’s the only thing between your face and the tarmac in case of an accident. So buying the correct helmet is probably as important as buying that fancy motorcycle. But many of the riders in the country face budget constraints which makes most of them opt for pocket friendly alternatives which are not as effective as some of the premium lids. So what should you buy without having to burna hole in your pocket? We have three letters for you – SOL. We tested one of the most affordable helmets from the SOL family, the new SF-2M Full Face helmet, and it turned out to be a decent bang for the small-ish amount of money it retails for.

The helmet does not get different shell sizes but it does come in three EPS sizes – XS-S, M-L and XL-XXXL). The thermo-plastic poly alloy shell is approved by international safety standard DOT rating. While not as light as your premium lids costing upwards of INR 10K, this SOL helmet is well-weighted and doesn’t strain your neck or shoulders during long highway hauls. It fits snugly and is devoid of any irritating wobble that infests most of those cheap quality helmets. This specific unit remains outstandingly steady even on three digit speeds. Much of the credit for the incredible fit goes to the aerodynamic design and the generous inner padding.

On the inside, the SOL SF-2M comes equipped with Coolmax interior and cheek pads that are removable, adjustable and washable for the best fit and comfort. The inner pads can be changed without much fuss. What that essentially translates into is availability of different styles in the correct fit.

The visor on the SF-2M isn’t anti-fog but you can opt for a snow breath guard which would keep things relatively clearer. Interior and EPS are designed for maximum controlled venting with incorporated air channels. The ventilation system does keep the air flowing through the helmet, further enhancing the comfort levels during rides, especially during warm days. The wind noise levels, though not the best, are commendably low for the price. Removable chin curtains come as standard which comes handy in keeping any dust from getting inside the helmet and cause any discomfort. The D-ring chain comes as standard which helps you fasten this lid reassuringly.

Now most of us go out for group rides and quite a handful of our rider buddies use motorcycle Bluetooth intercom system such as Sena or Scala. The SF-2M gets pre-installed speaker pockets and all you have to do is slide the speakers inside without the need to stick them inside the helmet.

Overall, the SF-2M is one the most value for money helmets available in the country today. The well designed ventilation system, great finish and commendable quality make it a perfect tool for touring while, at the same time, being your every day helmet. 1. What about the MT blade series of helmets, they offer similar features being DOT as well as ECE rated. comes in broader size range and has dual visors.
