Skoda to soon launch a cheaper variant of Superb

Motoroids became the first one to report about this news when we posted a story on this subject some couple of months ago. Now, it is confirmed that the Indian unit of Popular Czech auto manufacturer Skoda,  is busy working on a de-spec’ed Superb to make it more affordable and accessible to the car buying crowd. At present the Superb is available in three engine options -1.8 TSi (Petrol), 2.0 Litre TDi diesel and a 3.2 V6 Petrol.

The company is working to launch a new trim level called “Ambition” of the Superb luxury sedan. The ‘economy’ variant is rumored to come in with the tried and tested 1.8 TSi motor and the 2.0 Tdi oil burner. The TSi features a 6 speed manual gearbox while the diesel has the popular 6 speed dual clutch automatic. This variant will not feature an Electric Sunroof, the Bi-Xenon cornering headlamps, the  touchscreen system on the center console, the Bluetooth function, ESP, Hill Hold, Hill Descent features and some other luxuries that come with higher priced variants of this car. The Ambition trim should be easier on the pocket by a whopping 1.5 Lakhs over the current base model. The current entry-level variant boasts of dual-climate control and 6-airbags, and we feel that Skoda may reduce the number of airbags and offer a basic air con to keep the price in check.

The Skoda Superb is known for the spaciousness it offers and it has been one of its major selling points and it is likely to remain so even with the upcoming stripped down version. We are eagerly looking forward to the new version of the car. Luxury is all set to become affordable and now don’t say you still can’t buy one!
