Skoda Laura to be taken off the shelves

On the sidelines of the 2013 Octavia’s India debut, Skoda India confirmed that with the launch of the new Octavia, the Laura will be taken off the shelves. With this, it is now for sure that the Laura will not be sold alongside the new Octy as a discounted model.

It may be noted that the Laura is basically the last gen Octavia, which was launched in India with a new name for it allowed the Indian subsidiary of the Czech automaker to sell both the fifth and sixth gen car alongside each other. With the advent of the seventh gen model though, the last gen car will go out of sale.

This is only a good move, as it means that there are good chances of the new Octy being priced competitively. This also means that you can go and haggle the nearest Skoda dealer for huge discounts if you have always fancied to have a Laura in your garage.

The 2013 Octy is likely to go on sale in early September and bookings are expected to commence sometime next week. The new Octy has won many rave reviews from auto hacks across Europe. Skoda India has high hopes from the new Octavia and going by what our friends at some international publications have told us, the latest Octavia could easily become the most successful car from Skoda.

The new 2013 Octavia is underpinned by the much publicized MQB platform. It may be noted that the same platform underpins many more new-age Volkswagen group cars.

During the unveil ceremony held a couple of days ago, Skoda India laid stress on the fact that the Mk7 Octy is the largest, most practical, safest, most comfortable and environmentally friendly Octavia ever. There are good chances that the engine options for the new Octy would be carried over from the Laura.

Stay tuned for more on the upcoming 2013 Skoda Octavia India launch and price.
