Our friends at AutoColumn have come up with quite a big scoop!
If these good chaps are to be believed, the Indian subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz intends to launch the next gen 2016 GLK class here in 2016! It may be noted that Mercedes Benz India has already confirmed that the GLA, which is the baby GLK, is coming to us in 2014 OR 2015 and hence, it doesn’t really come across as a surprise that the GLK would be launched sometime after the GLA is here.
AutoColumn states that the 2016 Mercedes Benz GLK Class India launch will happen in first quarter of 2016 and this means that there are good chances that the upcoming SUV will make its India debut at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo. At the fast approaching 2014 Indian Auto Expo though, we will most likely be greeted by the CLA Class or the GLA Class.
The next gen 2016 will be underpinned by the new MRA platform and has been internally codenamed as the W253. W253 will mark the advent of first GLK Class model that will be also available in right hand drive layouts. Currently, the car is sold only in LHD markets and Mercedes never came up with a RHD version because of the car’s drive-shaft position doesn’t leave space for right side footwell and hence, a RHD variant could have serious ergonomic issues.
