Scania to introduce luxury buses by 2013

Volvo and Mercedes Benz buses are ruling the luxury bus services in India but this might be all set to change with the Swedish CV manufacturer Scania headed our way. Scania will be soon seen testing its buses in the Indian market and its full fledged operations might begin as soon as in 2013.

The offerings of the manufacturer might be priced upwards of INR 80 lakh and will lock horns with the German & Swedish duo. The coincidence here is that Scania has both Swedish and German connections as the CV maker is owned by the Volkswagen group. Scania manufactures agricultural equipment for Indian market from its Bangalore plant and this facility will be upgraded for the assembling of busses. Scania is making an investment of INR 150 crores for this. However, soon after the importing a few batches of the busses, the chassis building operations will begin. Expect the Scania busses to offer all features found in luxury busses from Merc and Volvo.

  1. What happens to MAN (owned by VW group!) who also wishes to launch its buses and has indeed showcased the same in various Auto Expos?
