Volkswagen’s compact sedan for India, the Ameo will soon take on the compact sedan segment in India. After having been spied on various occasion, the car was officially unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo. Later, Volkswagen also brought the compact sedan out for an official photography session for media. The car has seems production ready for some time, though the launch dates for the model have been kept under the wraps by the German carmaker till now.

Now, if reports are to be believed, Volkswagen plans to begin deliveries of the Ameo from the month of July. The report also suggests that the launch of the compact sedan will take place towards the end of June. Based on its elder sibling the Vento, the sub 4 metre compact sedan will come mated to either a 1.2 litre 3 cylinder petrol engine or a 1.5 litre 4 cylinder diesel engine. Transmission duties will be taken care of by 5 speed gearbox for both the engines while a 7 speed DSG transmission will be available only for the diesel mill.
Designed keeping in mind the Indian market, the Ameo features a similar front fascia as seen on the Vento albeit with a few tweaks. Some of the most visible changes can be seen at the posterior which is now smaller in size keeping in mind the sub 4 metre requirement. The tail lamps receive a new design while the number plate recess seems to have been borrowed from another sibling, namely the Rapid.
Once launched, the Ameo will rival the Tata Zest, Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Ford Figo Aspire, and the Honda Amaze. WE expect the Ameo to arrive with a price tag of approximately Rs. 6.5-7 lakh.
