Round 3 of The National Racing Championship heads to Kari Motor Speedway

The Madras Motor Sport Club (MMSC), one of the oldest motorsport clubs in India, is gearing up for yet another round of India’s biggest domestic racing championship as the 2014 MMSC-FMSCI National Racing Championship (NRC) heads to Coimbatore this weekend. The 2014 NRC Round 3 will take place at the Kari Motor Speedway and will also feature the return of the Toyota Etios Motor Racing (EMR) Trophy.

The fastest single seater racing category in India, the MRF FF1600 and the Indian Touring Car Championship (ITC) will be joined by the Formula LGB 1300, Indian Junior Touring Car Championship (IJTC) and the all new Super Stock category. Round 2 of the action saw some dominant displays by rising star Tarun Reddy, IJTC Champion Feroze Khan and current ITC leader Arjun Narendran. Coimbatore can expect a cracking weekend of motorsport action with 16 races on the cards for Saturday.

MMSC President Ajit Thomas was excited to have the Toyota EMR back this weekend. He commented, “Round 3 of the MMSC-NRC will be a welcome challenge for all the drivers. Being the only domestic championship racing in all 3 racing circuits in India, the NRC provides drivers the perfect platform to excel in different conditions. It is great to have Toyota back with us in the Toyota EMR Trophy. Toyota have a rich motorsport history and we are very happy to have them run with us this weekend. We will have 16 races this weekend so great opportunity for fans to come down and witness the best of motorsport in the country.”

In the ITC category, Arjun Narendran swept to victory in all three races in Round 2 in Chennai and will be looking to continue his brilliant form at his home track. B Vijaykumar, Ashish Ramaswamy and Vidyuth Iyer will all be looking to stop Arjun from running away with it again.

The MRF FF1600, India’s fastest single-seater series, will continue with 16 year old Tarun Reddy the favourite for the weekend. Hot on his heels are Advait Deodhar and Vikash Anand, who will be hoping the Kari Motor Speedway is a happy hunting ground.

Toyota EMR

The Toyota EMR, running for the second year in the MMSC-NRC, will feature 8 races over 2 race weekends. This weekend will see 16 drivers battling it out. Top drivers including Advait Deodhar and Prashant Tharani Singh will lead the charge this Commenting on the announcement, Mr. N. Raja, Director & Sr. Vice President – Marketing and Sales, TKM said, “Toyota introduced EMR in India in 2012 with an aim to promote motorsports at a grass root level and make motorsports more accessible and popular in India. The EMR platform has helped talented young racers develop their motoring skills, and further trained them to gain a competitive edge for their future. After the success of the inaugural EMR trophy last year, we are lookingforward to the second edition of the trophy starting in Coimbatore“.

The IJTC, with 27 cars on the grid, will see all eyes on defending champion Feroze Khan. Dr. Senthil and Ashish Ramaswamy will be expected to take the battle to Feroze where qualifying will be crucial. The Formula LGB 1300 Championship looks to be a three-way battle with championship leader Ajay Kini going up against Goutam Parekh and last year’s Formula LGB F4 Champions S. Narendran. MRF Tyres will be the sole tyre partner for all categories that include over 70 drivers. The MMSC today also confirmed that the races will be telecasted on Doordarshan.
