The Chevrolet Equinox is quite popular in North America. In fact, the crossover is the second best selling Chevrolet in the United States, apart from being the brand’s best selling high-riding vehicle in the country as well. The current generation of the Equinox, around since 2010, had admittedly gotten a bit long in the tooth, so Chevrolet just had it replaced with a brand new model.

Said to be developed from the ground up, the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox comes with fresh styling, new interiors and certain technological advances. As for the appearance, the new Equinox looks decidedly urbane, with its well contoured bodywork and a squat stance. Borrowing styling cues from the latest Cruze, the car on which it is based, the new Equinox’s new-found appearance leaves its dated looking predecessor for the dead.

The interiors are newly designed as well, and get more modern stuff like a 7- and 8-inch MyLink infotainment systems supporting both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s a new denim-style fabric for the seats, and a functionality enhancing features like rear seats which fold down in a particular manner to allow for a flat loading floor.

180kg lighter than its predecessor, the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox will be the first diesel powered compact crossover in the United States. The 1.6-liter turbo-diesel, 4-cylinder engine, good for 136 hp  and 320 Nm of torque, will come paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. Upon launch, it’ll be joined by two other turbo-petrol engines, displacing 1.5 and 2.0 litres, while making 170 hp and 242 hp respectively. Front-wheel drive will come as standard, while an all-wheel drive system is being offered as an option.
