It’s a car. It’s a motorcycle. It’s the Polaris. Well, it is actually a motorcycle with a few characteristic of a car. The Polaris Slingshot is a 3-wheel roadster that represents the future of on-road driving excitement. Polaris celebrates 60 years of innovation by introducing this highly anticipated 3-wheel roadster that represents the future of on-road driving. Although Polaris is calling the Slingshot an all new product, the design (atleast from the front) does reminds us of KTM’s X-Bow.

Speaking about this new product from Polaris, Mike Jonikas, Vice President of Slingshot said, “Slingshot was designed to deliver head turning exhilaration on two dimensions. First is the exhilaration that you can see, hear, and feel while riding in Slingshot. Second is the exhilaration you feel when people turn their heads to stare at Slingshot’s unique and exotic styling.”

Slingshot is a new on-road driving and riding experience. The open air cockpit and side seating arrangement for the passenger on the Slingshot offers a 360 degree view and lets the occupants experience a front row shot of adrenaline. The company claims that the Polaris Slingshot, with its sporty suspension, wide body and very low centre of gravity, is a treat around the corner.

Powering the Slingshot is a 2.4-litre dual-overhead cam engine which produces 173 horsepower and is mated with a 5-speed manual transmission. It features a high strength steel spaceframe, a lightweight aluminum swingarm, and a carbon fiber reinforced drive belt. This has helped the company to keep the dry weight of this vehicle at less than 1,700 lbs.

The Slingshot has been loaded with motorcycle features such as electronic stability and traction control, 3-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, LED taillights, forged aluminum roll hoops, and 3-point seat belts. Polaris also offers a number of personalisation options that lets customers modify their Slingshot with premium accessories. These accessories include larger tires with forged aluminum wheels, media console, windscreens, and vehicle covers.

While the base Slingshot comes at a price tag of USD 19,999 (approximately Rs 12.02 lakhs), the premium model called Slingshot SL, retails at USD 23,999 (approximately Rs 14.43 lakhs).
