After a series of spy pics of the test mule, undisguised spotting and leaked interiors, finally the official images of ‘The Next Big Thing’ from Tata Motors have been released. The Zica is all set to be unveiled in Goa on the December 1 and is expected to reach the showrooms by January 2016 with a starting price around INR 3.6lakhs (expected).
Based on a heavily reworked version of the Indica’s X0 platform, the The Tata Zica has been developed from scratch, which means it brings in all-new styling, engines and interiors. From the redesigned, signature smiley grille flanked by large, wraparound headlamps in front, to the hind section featuring new petal-shaped tail-lamp clusters, the Zica has finally shed the ancestral (Indica) appearance. The sides feature a strong waist line, along with a stronger character line below, which follows the door shut-lines. The range topping variants will also feature newly designed alloy wheels.
Inside, the Zica’s cabin features a dual tone theme, and a contemporary dashboard design with a well integrated center console. Parts of the dashboard are trimmed with piano black accents, while the rest is sheathed with soft touch plastics. The Zica (codename – Kite 4) will be Tata Motor’s new, lower B-segment contender. The Zica will be powered by two new engines – a 1.05-litre, three-cylinder diesel unit, and a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol unit; both naturally aspirated and mated to 5-speed manual transmissions. The Tata Zica will also spawn a compact sedan, expected to be out with the name Tata Sway (codename – Kite 5). After launch the Tata Zica will be pitted against the Maruti Celerio, Wagon R, Renault Kwid and Hyundai i10.
