After several speculations, there is finally some concrete piece of news about the much awaited CBR650F sports tourer from the top authorities from Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI). HMSI gave a glimpse of its future readiness and previewed what customers can expect from the manufacturer in the financial year 2015-16. Honda’s “RETAIN.EXPAND.CREATE” strategy will make the Indian arm of the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer future ready. The biggest revelation during the announcements came about the Honda CBR650F.
Yadvinder S Guleria, Senior Vice President – Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India confirmed the plans to introduce the CBR650F for the Indian market in 2015. Guleria also confirmed that Honda will set up a new, premium distribution format in 20 cities for the upcoming CBR 650F in India.
Speaking about the market and product plans Guleria said, “The product roadmap for 2015 is robust with nine new products remaining to be launched in this year. For our flagship model CBR 650F, Honda is innovating by bringing a new premium distribution format in 20 top priority cities. Clearly, 2015 will be a game changer year and Honda is all set to take the next leap.”
The Honda CBR650F will compete in the middleweight sports tourer motorcycle segment which is currently occupied by the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the Benelli TNT600 GT. The Honda CBR650F will be powered by a 649cc inline four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which will be mated to six-speed gearbox. Power output figure is rated at 87 bhp @ 11000 rpm while the torque stands at 63 Nm @ 8000 rpm. Braking duties would be performed by 320mm dual disc brakes at the front and a 240mm single disc at the rear.
Honda’s decision to assemble the CBR650F in India made us believe that the upcoming motorcycle will be competitively priced. However, Honda plans to sell the CBR650F at an estimated ex-showroom price of Rs 8 lakh which is slightly higher than what most of us expected.
