The festive season will start with a bang as the BMW Motorrad G310R is confirmed for India launch in October 2016. Speaking to the media at the 2016 Concorso d’Elganza Villa d’Este, BMW Motorrad President and CEO Stefan Schallar said that the two-wheeler maker will commence its India operations in the month of October, 2016. This upcoming BMW was recently caught testing, completely undisguised, on the Krishnagiri – Bangalore Highway. Rumour mill also suggests that the Indo-German duo will introduce a fully faired version of the motorcycle in the future.

The motorcycle will be completely developed by BMW in Munich but will be manufactured by the German two-wheeler maker’s new two-wheeler partner, TVS Motors, in India. Local production would help BMW launch the motorcycle at highly competitive prices for the Indian market.

The motorcycle will come equipped with a 313cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with four valves and two overhead camshafts together with electronic fuel injection. The 80 mm bore and the 62.1 mm stroke develops a praiseworthy 34 hp of power at 9,500 rpm and 28Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm.

While Stefan Schallar did not reveal any details on the pricing front, we expect the BMW G310R to carry a price tag in the range of Rs 2.5 to 3.0 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect to hear an official statement from the Indo-German duo closer to the launch date.

The BMW may not undercut the Austrian pocket-rocket, the KTM 390 Duke, in terms of pricing which currently retails at an ex-showroom tag of Rs 1.80 lakh. But we believe that the brand loyalists would not mind the extra premium for the BMW. Do you agree? Share your views with us about the upcoming BMW G310R through the comments section below.

  1. I don’t think it that way. Bcoz Indian mid range customers will not seek a model with its brand background. They also prefer the money value! Spending 3lkh for a single cylinder mill will not provide a piece of cake! Also the BMW should be beware of their chief competitors in India….
