Remember the R15 V3.0 spy image that surfaced in November 2016? Well, it turns out that the motorcycle was a customized R15 V2.0 with updated headlights from Indonesia’s Elshop Modified and not the R15’s third instalment. Motoring portal BikeAdvice’s reader pointed at the Facebook page of the Indonesian custom builder.
While we are yet to see the final product, earlier reports confirmed that the next generation YZF-R15 will receive a marginal performance boost. In an interview, Yamaha Motor Research & Development India Managing Director, Yasuo Ishihara has confirmed that the upcoming YZF-R15 ‘will be a step-up from the current generation in all aspects of performance and safety’.
While Ishihara remained tight-lipped about any further details, another report stated that the upcoming version of the R15 will feature a bored up 155cc engine. So in terms of performance, the all-new, liquid-cooled, single cylinder, the 155cc engine should dish out higher power and torque outputs as compared to the current 149cc motor’s 17 PS of power and 15 Nm of torque. The six-speed transmission should be carried over unchanged.

The upcoming motorcycle is also expected to feature ABS which was expected as the upcoming norms would make it mandatory on motorcycles from 2017 onward.
