We have been following Nissan’s plans to bring the Datsun brand to India since quite some time now. Recently, Takayuki Ishida, MD & CEO at Nissan India said that the budget end Datsun cars will be brought to India in the later half of 2014. He also added that these cars will retail in the INR 2-4 lakhs bracket. A safe guess will be that Datsun products will be showcased at the next New Delhi Auto Show that will be held in early 2014. The production of Datsun branded cars will begin at Nissan’s manufacturing facility at Oragadam, Chennai and the manufacturer will set up a new plant for low end cars later. This is not all as the growing demand for oil burners has made the company start with the development of a low capacity diesel engine for the upcoming Datsun hatchback.
