All-new Mahindra Scorpio catches 12,000 bookings

New 2014 Mahindra Scorpio (77)

You can book your Scorpio through SnapDeal, too.

The Mahindra Scorpio has always been one of India’s best-selling SUVs since its inception over a decade ago. And by the looks of it, the success story continues for the all-new 2015 Mahindra Scorpio. Since its launch in the market on September 25, the Indian SUV has garnered over 12,000 bookings. The company has got over 6,000 confirmed orders, too. According to a report by Autocar Professional, the Executive Director and President of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) told them that October could very well be the best month for the Scorpio in terms of its sales.

The new Scorpio is a better car than its predecessor.

For existing Scorpio owners wishing to upgrade to this newer model, dealerships granted two days of bookings just for them just 10 days prior to the launch of the car. Also, for the first time for an Indian carmaker, you could now book your Scorpio online through SnapDeal. M&M is well aware of the benefits of the internet, it seems. The 2015 Mahindra Scorpio gets way better styling than its earlier iteration, especially on the front. The SUV now looks more substantial and aggressive, which might help you to scare away smaller road users. The cat-claw design on the front-grille and the beefier bumper, bestows the new Scorpio with an even more macho look (not that it needed any more). Newer design cues continue throughout the car and this makes the SUV seem more well balanced than before. The side profile remains the same and we think it could have been styled better. The back, too, seems a bit overdone and the side-ways opening tail-gate doesn’t help much in tight spaces. But all that said, the 2015 Mahindra Scorpio gets bigger and more suave alloys which uplifts the car’s overall road presence.

The tried and tested mHawk unit.

You also get better equipment with this Scorpio such as automatic climate control, LED daytime running lights, a touchscreen infotainment setup with built-in GPS navigation and of course, the 17-inch alloy wheels. The engine under the bonnet remains the same as before and the Scorpio still uses an old-school body-on-frame chassis setup. The 5-speed manual gearbox is better than before and the SUV feels better to drive than before, too. However, don’t aim at a corner and presume that this Scorpio will take it with any gusto. Prices for this new version starts at Rs. 7.98 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
