With the fast shrinking gap between petrol and diesel prices, the former getting cheaper each passing day, manufacturers are now pushing petrol variants of their products in the market. Now, although crossovers haven’t really taken off in our market, there is a new option available for potential buyers. The Volkswagen Cross Polo will now be available with a 1.2-litre MPI engine that produces 74bhp and 110Nm of torque. With an official economy rating of 16.47kmpl, the petrol-engined Cross Polo should appeal to those who like their hatchbacks on stilts.
Safety wise, the Cross Polo gets ABS and dual front airbags, and like the rest of the Volkswagen Polo range, comes with a 4-star NCAP safety rating. Similarly, the dual-beam halogen headlamps with black finish from the refreshed Polos, 15-inch alloy wheels, ‘Cross’ bumpers with silver accents, silver-painted roof rails and rear-view mirror housing and ‘Cross’ front grille with chrome accent helps differentiate the Cross from the hatchback. On the inside, a leather-wrapped flat-bottomed steering wheel, superior ‘Cloud Titan Black’ upholstery and ‘Climatronic’ automatic air-conditioning make their presence felt.

Bookings of the New Cross Polo will commence from 15 January 2015. Ex-showroom Mumbai prices start at Rs 6.94 lakh.
