Toyota has launched the updated version of one of its most successful MPVs in the Indian market, the Innova Crysta. The base variant, tagged as 2.4 G MT, has been priced at Rs 13.84 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai) while the top of the line, fully loaded 2.8 ZX AT variant, which comes equipped with an automatic gearbox, carries a tag of Rs 20.77 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai).

First showcased to its Indian audience at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi, the new Toyota Innova Crysta will be available in six variants namely:
- 2.4 G MT
- 2.4 GX MT
- 2.4 VX MT
- 2.4 ZX MT
- 2.8 GX AT
- 2.8 ZX AT
The new Innova Crysta is based on Toyota’s innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform which also underpins the Hilux pick-up truck and the new Fortuner SUV. The new Innova Crysta gets a long list of exterior and interior upgrades.
On the outside, the front end styling is in line with Toyota’s new design philosophy for utility vehicles. Upfront is a massive trapezoidal grille starring thick, chrome laden slats. The large, wraparound headlamps feature a set of three, neatly segmented illumination elements, which include projectors and LED banks. Other exterior highlights include three new colors, 17-inch alloy wheels, and chrome window lining.
Revised interiors feature a revamped cabin, highlighted by a fresh dashboard. The new Innova Crysta also gets automatic climate control with Rear Auto Cooler, 7″ touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, cruise control, 8-way power adjustable driver seat, one-touch tumble second row seats, one-touch third row space up seats and front seat with easy slide from rear. Safety features include seven airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, stability control and three point seatbelts.
The Innova Crysta gets two diesel engine options – a 2.8-litre and a 2.4-litre unit. Both four-cylinder units are from Toyota’s new GD family of turbo diesel engines. The 2.8-litre (1GD) is rated at a healthy 174 PS @ 3400 rpm and 360 Nm @ 1200-3400 rpm while the 2.4-litre (2GD) makes do with 150 PS @ 3400 rpm and 343 Nm @ 1400-2800 rpm. The 2.8-litre exclusively comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission whereas the 2.4-litre unit is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission.
