Design, Features & Trim levels:

Stylistic changes are minimal, with the new Swift sporting a mildly re-tweaked front bumper with a bigger air dam, new grille, bezel fog lamps and newly designed alloy wheels- NO DRLs here. The interiors continue mostly unchanged but now benefit from a push start button, new upholstery with sporty silver accents, updated music system with intelligent speed based auto volume; Bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted audio controls and a Electromagnetic back door opener- NO cruise control here. Apart from that the ORVMs are now electrically retractable and the new Swift also gets reverse parking sensors.

The new Swift range will be spread over four, familiar trim levels- the Lxi, Lxi(O), Vxi and the Zxi for the petrol; Ldi, Vdi and Zdi for the diesel.

  • The basic LXi and LDi trim levels now come with rear adjustable headrests and a 60:40 split for the rear seat.
  • The newly added Swift LXi+ trim gets front power windows and remote locking.
  • The VXi and VDi trims add a music player, electrically retractable ORVMs and ABS, which is only offered in the Vdi.
  • The top-end ZXi and ZDi trims get all the new aforementioned additions.

Engines & Mileage:

The new Swift continues with the 1248cc DDiS 190 diesel engine dishing out a torque of 190Nm @ 2000 rpm & power of 75ps @ 4000rpm. The Petrol variant comes with 1197cc K series VVT engine that is now marginally less powerful and delivers a power of 84.3ps @ 6000rpm (instead of 85.8bhp on the last Swift) and a torque of 115Nm @ 4000rpm.

Mild updates made to both the engines by Maruti Suzuki boffins have improved fuel efficiency by 10% over the outgoing Swift. The new ARAI figures stand at 20.4 kmpl for petrol variant and 25.2 kmpl for diesel variant. Tweaks include changes in engine hardware leading to improved thermal efficiency, reduced frictional losses and changes in engine calibration. While the compact combustion chamber and higher compression ratio on gasoline engine helps to improve engine efficiency, the advanced thermal management system in diesel engine along with low friction engine oil and modified fuel injection system help diesel engine in faster warm up and lower frictional losses.
