Yesterday, Mitsubishi India launched the Pajero Sport 4×2 AT in India with an aggressive pricing of Rs 23.55 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. Only available with a 4×2 specification, the new automatic transmission equipped Paj will undercut the Pajero Sport 4×4 with manual transmission, which is now priced at Rs 23.80 lakh, after getting dearer by Rs 30,000.
Powering the new Pajero Sport AT is the same 2.5-liter, variable geometry turbo diesel engine, with power rated at 178PS, while torque gets significantly reduced by 50 Nm from the 4×4 variant, and now stands at 350Nm. New is the 5-speed automatic gearbox, which gets cool, magnesium paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel. Also worth mentioning is the fact that the new Pajero Sport AT is 105 Kgs lighter, with the heavy, manual box and all the 4×4 paraphernalia gone. A revised grille and a mildly updated front bumper with larger fog lamps make their debut with the new Pajero Sport 4×2 AT as well.
The interiors get a new 2-din audio system with navigation, while there’s reverse parking camera and automatic climate control as standard, amongst other things. The 4×2 AT will also be more efficient compared to the 4×4 variant which has an ARAI certified mileage of 12.8kmpl, increasing it’s appeal to those city slickers who don’t like their SUVs to get dirty. The new Pajero Sport AT 4×2 will be assembled at Hindustan Motors’ plant in Tiruvallur near Chennai. With the Pajero Sport AT 4×2 taking on the Toyota Fortuner and the Hyundai Santa-Fe, a reeling Mitsubishi India hopes to double annual sales to 4,000 units per annum.
