Say hello to the new Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake, the fifth and final member of Mercedes’ front-wheel drive lineup. Based on the same platform as the CLA four-door coupe, the A-Class hatchback, B-Class minivan and GLA crossover, the CLA Shooting Brake will reportedly offer more headroom at the rear and bigger boot space. Borrowing more than a few design cues from its immediate big brother, the CLS Shooting Brake, the new model has a lower overall height yet still offers more spacious room on the inside.
Powertrain options for the Shooting Brake include a 2.1-litre turbodiesel with either 137 or 180 PS of peak power, and a 1.6-litre four cylinder with 123, 158 or 213 PS of max power. And if you’re not too fond of the idea of a front-driven Merc, worry not because that last one will be available with the optional 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
Then there’s the big daddy of the bunch, the numero uno, the CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake, fettled by the AMG skunkworks. Powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the four-door CLA45 as well as the A45 and GLA45, the CLA45 puts out 364 PS of max power, delivered once again to all four wheels.
Mercedes-Benz says the CLA45 AMG will breach the 100kmph mark in just 4.7 seconds and have an electronically restricted top speed of 250kmph. So yeah, it will be even faster than the crossover.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA Shooting Brake is scheduled to go on sale in Europe next January, with the first deliveries commencing in March. No word on whether it is going to be available here in India, or even North America yet.
