Mercedes-Benz new C-class launch on 1st September 2011: all the details

Mercedes-Benz India is launching the new C-class in New Delhi on the 1st of September 2011. In its newest avatar, the C-class will have a more striking design, a thoroughly revamped interior and more features. The new C-class although not a completely new model is a major overhaul with as many 2000 component changes over its predecessor.

Design wise, the front and tail-end section of the car have been altered. The front bumper now looks more dynamic. The side air inlets in the bumper are positioned low down, giving the car a more road-hugging appearance. The car has been given a new bonnet made of aluminium.

The shape of the clear-lens headlamps has also been changed. The horizontal LED daytime running lamps in the bumper also make the Mercedes-Benz C-Class unmistakable from a distance. At the rear, the bumper has been modified to emphasize the width of the saloon. In the facelifted model, the tail lights are even more neatly integrated.

Inside, there is now a high-resolution colour display screen in the instrument cluster, a new dashboard with grained surface and prominent decorative trim. There is a new-generation steering wheel, which was first introduced with the new CLS. The dashboard is totally restyled, with new surface and a high-resolution colour display in the instrument cluster. The luxury automatic climate control THERMOTRONIC, which now makes it possible for the occupants to select their own individual climate styles may also be introduced here.

Mercedes internationally claims a fuel consumption improvement by up to 31 per cent. Efficiency-enhancing measures including new engines, the improved 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission and the ECO start/stop function also feature. The COMAND system has also been thoroughly updated and now offer many more functions.

In terms of handling, the new C-class features AGILITY CONTROL suspension. It changes the dampening based on your driving style and feedback it receives from the road. This offers great handling and comfortable drive without compromising either, depending on the driving style and the road surface.

Internationally, the new C-class comes with a plethora of electronic aids. Here’s the list.

•    Adaptive Highbeam Assist
•    Active Lane Keeping Assist
•    Active Blind Spot Assist
•    Attention Assist
•    Brake Assist Plus
•    Distronic Plus
•    Speed Limit Assist
•    Parktronic
•    PRE-SAFE®

The Indian-spec car may or may not feature many of these features. It would be interesting to see the equipment list and engine options on the new car. Stay tuned as we’ll bring you all the details live from the launch ceremony. Here we have some pictures of the international model.
