COMAND unit on the ML 63 AMG gets the cloud-based applications suite.
Mercedes-Benz has launched its online apps suite support for most of its cars sold in India. Of course, only the cars that have the COMAND Online system can benefit from this. The models that do/will get the apps support include the S-Class, ML-Class, GL-Class and all of the AMG models. The Mercedes-Benz apps suite is a cloud-based connectivity and services app that is part of the COMAND Online system. This system allows the user to connect to the interweb and use various online services. It was first showcased on the CLS 250 CDI and E-class Cabriolet.
The CLS 250 CDI was one of the first Mercs in India to feature the COMAND Online system.
The Mercedes-Benz app suite can be installed in all Mercedes-Benz cars that come with New Telematics Generation (NTG) 4.5 and above (NTG 4.5, 5*1 and 5*2) for their COMAND Online system. The app suite allows the user an unlimited access to the internet and that’s not all. The system also comes with Mercedes-Benz Radio which has content that’s handpicked for the company’s customers. Then there is TuneIn Radio and that allows the user to gain access to over 1 lakh radio stations and up to 40 lakh on-demand programs and podcasts. Users can take advantage of the weather app that not only shows you the current weather at any location, but also comes with a forecast feature. Customers can also access RSS Newsfeeds and can use the read-out function to listen to them. Plus, there’s also the HRS hotel search app.
All AMG models will come with the cloud-based connectivity app suite.
The Mercedes-Benz apps available through the COMAND Online system will also allow the user to receive over-the-air updates for the apps. This means that you don’t have to go to a dealership to upgrade your software or to get the latest app version. Talking of which, these apps use your smartphone mobile data pack to run and are compatible with pretty much every smartphone out there. Also, the CLS-Class gets one extra application – Morningstar Finance app. This lets a CLS owner to keep track of over 4.16 lakh investment offerings which include stocks, currencies and commodities. Furthermore, more cars in the company’s lineup are to get this app suite in the future.
