Stuttgart based premium auto maker Mercedes today confirmed the name of their new high performance flagship, which is set to replace the mighty SLS AMG. The new sportscar has been named as the Mercedes AMG GT.

Mercedes has also released some Mercedes AMG GT interior images and as can be observed in these pics here, the upcoming two seater sports car gets a well designed cockpit, with the car getting a three-spoke steering wheel and red and black interiors. The dashboard of the AMG GT features circular aircon vents and a touchpad controller for the dash mounted screen. The car also gets a gearlever that is typical of the one on most AMG models. Placed close to this gearlever are buttons for switching between driving modes, suspension settings, traction control and the engine starter button.

The new Mercedes AMG GT is powered by a V8 engine, specifications of which haven’t been revealed yet. Akin to the SLS AMG, the AMG GT has been completely developed by Mercedes AMG and the new car will make its public debut in Autumn this year. It is very likely that the upcoming model would be unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October.

On being launched, the new Mercedes AMG GT will be seen locking horns with the Porsche 911 and the Jaguar F-Type. Stay tuned to Motoroids for more updates on the new Mercedes AMG GT.
