Maruti Suzuki India Ltd- India’s largest selling car maker and the king of small cars, has launched the much hyped Stingray, a new body variant of its popular tall boy, the Wagon R, in our highly competitive small car market. The Stingray goes on sale for a starting price of INR 4.09 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

As can be seen in the images, the recently launched Maruti Stingray sports a totally revised front end which comprises of a sleeker grille, a set of new headlamps with a projector unit each, a revised bonnet and a new bumper whose air dam reminds us of the one on the Alto 800. Other than all this, the Stingray also gets new design alloy wheels, side skirts, blacked out B Pillars and some sprinkling of chrome at the rear end.

The interiors of the Stingray come draped in various shades of dark grey and black and get some chrome garnishing at few places. The additions to the interiors include- new seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, audio controls on steering wheel and blue backlight for speedo console. Other features include an audio system with Aux-in and USB Support, multi-information display with distance to empty read-out and fuel economy indicators.

The India-spec Maruti Stingray is powered by the same 1.0-liter, 3 cylinder, K Series petrol engine that powers the Wagon R, the Alto K10, the AStar and the Estilo. This motor has a max power of 68PS and a peak torque of 90Nm. While we would have liked the Stingray to come with a more powerful engine and some ‘go-faster bits’, the performance from the tried and test K10 motor should suit the tastes of most.

All new Maruti Stingray Price List-

  • Maruti Stingray LXi – Rs. 4.09 lakhs
  • Maruti Stingray VXi – Rs. 4.38 lakhs
  • Maruti Stingray VXi (O)- Rs. 4.67 lakhs

  1. Wagon R was a Box, and this one is even boxier. Will the current Wagon R sell along side this or get replaced by Stingray in due course?
