We saw the XA-Alpha concept at the Maruti Suzuki Pavilion in the 2012 Indian Auto Expo held in the beginning of this year. The compact SUV concept not just generated a lot of interest amongst the car aficionados but also a lot of speculations related to its launch in Indian market. The Maruti Suzuki XA-Alpha compact SUV is aimed at developing markets like that of India and measures less than 4 meters in length.
FinancialExpress reports that the Maruti Suzuki XA-Alpha is slated to hit production in 2014-15 and that the car would be positioned alongside the high selling Ertiga MPV.
This also means that the XA-Alpha would come with a price tag of INR 6-8 lakhs and would be powered by the 1.2 Liter K-Series petrol and the 1.3 Liter turbo diesel engine to be entitled for duty benefits.
The XA-Alpha concept could also spawn the next generation Suzuki Jimny and go on sale in many global markets as an entry level SUV.
To keep the costs under check, the XA-Alpha is expected to come in a front wheel drive layout, with all wheel drive available only as an option.
