The Maruti Suzuki SX4 S-Cross crossover has been spied up close and it seems like a India launch is due soon. Previewed in the country at this year’s Auto Expo, the S-Cross is essentially a slightly raised SX4 with completely different bodywork and more room on the inside. Several styling cues such as faux skid plats, roof-rails, and faux skid plates show it’s wannabe-SUV credentials. Inside, the SX4 Cross will be pretty similar to the SX4 sedan, which will be replaced by the Ciaz in soon.
The SX4 S-Cross on sale in international markets is powered by a 1.6 litre, in-line four cylinder motor that generates 117 bhp of power and 320 Nm of peak torque. In India though, the SX4 S-Cross will get our acclaimed “national engine”- the Fiat sourced 1.3 litre turbo diesel motor that will have a max power of 90 bhp. Also, abroad, the SX4 S-Cross gets Suzuki’s “Allgrip” all-wheel-drive system- it goes to be seen if the same is offered in India.
The SX4 S-Cross is expected to launch in India by the end of this year, after Maruti gets their hands off the Ciaz launch. This new compact crossover will go up against the likes of the Ford Ecosprort, Renault Duster/Nissan Terrano and other hatchbacks on stilts like the VW Cross Polo and the Toyota Etios Cross.
