Maruti Suzuki Sales Report: October 2012 vs October 2011

Not for nothing is Maruti Suzuki known as the undisputed leader of Indian car market. Plenty of action has been taking place at the Indo-Jap car maker and MSIL was seen launching many new products and facelifts in the previous one year.

This has surely done a world of good to the car maker as MSIL has sold as much as almost 54% more cars in October 2012 than in same month last year. The car maker registered a sales figure of 103,108 units in October 2012. This includes 7,106 units for export. The Company had sold a total of 55,595 units in October 2011.

Here are the official figures from MSIL:

A Segment: In the A segment, Maruti sells the trusty old 800, Alto, WagonR and the AStar. The car maker sold 42233 units in this segment this month. Compared to October 2011 figure of 25009 units, the car maker has registered a growth of almost 70%. The increased sales can be attributed to the huge discounts being offered on the recently revised AStar and the introduction of the Alto K10.

We are expecting Maruti to grow even further in this segment due to the introduction of Alto 800 which was launched on 17 October and has already received 30000 bookings.

B Segment : In the B segment, Maruti sells the Estilo, Swift and Ritz. The car maker sold 22459 units in this segment this month. Compared to October 2011 figure of 10859 units, the car maker has registered a growth of almost 107%! Much of this can  be attributed to the high selling Swift hatchback which is currently the market leader in its segment

Entry Midsize Sedan Segment: Maruti’s very popular Dzire continue to dominate its segment with MSIL selling as many as 14389 units of this popular entry level sedan. Compared to October 2011 sales figure of 5001 units, Maruti has registered a very impressive growth of almost 188%!

Midsize Sedan Segment: Thanks to the introduction of a diesel variant, the SX4 registered a growth of almost 118% and sold 695 units as compared to 320 units in October 2012.

Executive Entry level sedan: Only a few hours back, we reported that MSIL has taken the Kizashi, its D Segment Contender, off the shelves. However, thanks to huge discounts, MSIL managed to sell 35 units of the not so popular car in October 2012. Last year in October, only 3 Kizashi cars were sold in October. This is a growth of almost 1067% !!

Utility Vehicles: MSIL sold 7400 units of Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga in October 2012. The Ertiga, which was launched in April 2012 , has certainly done a good job. Last year, MSIL sold only 270 units in this segment and comparing the October 2012 sales to that in corresponding month of 2011, MSIL registered a growth of almost 2641%.

Van Segment: Compared to October 2012, MSIL sold more Eeco and Omni vans in October 2011. Figures show a 12% decline in sales of the vans.
