From several spy shots to the showcase at the recently conducted Auto Expo 2014, we have covered it all about the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ciaz sedan. In a recent development, it has emrged that the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz launch would happen in September 2014, just prior to the onset of the festive season.
Codenamed as ‘YL1’, the upcoming model is being speculated to replace the slow-selling SX4 sedan and will look much like the concept model we saw at the Expo. All this means that the production spec Ciaz will have sleek exteriors and a sporty stance. It is being said that Suzuki has benchmarked the car’s exterior desing and styling against Hyundai fluidic sculpture design philosophy that is seen on the Verna and Elantra.
Talking about the car’s interiors, the Ciaz is expected to borrow in plenty from the cabins of the SX4 and the Ertiga. The car could feature Ertiga’s steering wheel and aircon vents. Also, the car would feature a long features list that would comprise of class leading equipment.
Underpinning the Ciaz will be the same platform that underpins the Ertiga. This platform is basically dervied from Swift’s platform and the Ciaz will also get Ertiga’s 1.4 ltr K Series petrol and the 1.3 Ltr VGT Multijet turbo diesel engine. In the latest report, it is being said that the Ciaz will be sold with the AMT (automated manual transmission) variant. If the Celerio’s pricing is anything to go by, the AMT variant of the Ciaz won’t be much pricier than the similarly equipped petrol model and we expect Maruti Suzuki Ciaz AMT price to be pegged at around INR 50,000 above that of manual variant.
