New Suzuki Baleno

Maruti Suzuki Baleno to launch in India on October 26

New Suzuki Baleno (11)

Maruti Suzuki’s Hyundai Elite i20 challenger, the all-new Baleno premium hatchback is scheduled to launch in India on October 26. Production of the new Baleno has already commenced in India. Unveiled internationally only yesterday at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the new Baleno brings back the long dead moniker after more than a decade.

Styled using Suzuki’s new “Liquid Flow” design philosophy , the new Baleno hatchback is based on a new generation platform. Internationally, the engines on offer will be a new 1.0 litre BOOSTERJET direct-injection turbocharged petrol engine, along with a 1.2 litre DUALJET petrol engine; the latter can be coupled with the SHVS mild hybrid system by Suzuki.

However, the India-spec Baleno will reportedly soldier on with the same engines used in the current Maruti range, which include the 1.2-litre K12M petrol engine from the Swift, good for 84.3 bhp and 115Nm of torque, along with the D13A diesel engine from the Ciaz, which makes 88.5 bhp and 200Nm of torque. Both will be clubbed to 5-speed manual transmission, while the petrol engine could also be offered with a CVT gearbox.

Features on offer will be projector headlamps with LED position lamps, a high-definition colour LCD multi information display in the instrument cluster and a 7-inch touch-screen equipped infotainment system with Apple Car Play. Safety features will include Radar Brake Support; unlikely to be offered in India, along with ESP, six SRS airbags and an impact absorbent body. Styling will be similar to the international model, apart from slight changes to the grille.

The new Baleno measures 3,995mm long; 1,745mm wide; 1,470mm high (1,460mm with SHVS), along with a wheelbase of 2,520mm. Minimum ground clearance is 120mm (110mm with SHVS), while the Baleno rides on 185/55R16 or 175/65R15 tyres depending on the variant.
